March 19, 2003- America's quiet warriors are the legion of ham radio operators, 700,000 of them, who are always at ready for backup duty in emergencies--amateur, unpaid, uncelebrated, civilian radio operators, during and after floods and fires and tornadoes. After the 9/11 attacks, hams were indispensable in reuniting friends and families. Most recently it was they who expedited the search for debris after the disaster to the space shuttle Columbia, and right now, at this moment, they are involved in homeland security to a greater degree than you would want me to make public.
Travis J. Augustine - W9HDG
Name: Travis J Augustine
Call Sign: W9HDG - Amateur Extra
ARES/RACES Position District: ADEC NE. WI. ARES/RACES - Web site Admin/Server Admin
ARES/RACES Position County: AEC - Marathon County ARES/RACES - 1st AEC/SKYWARN and Digital Communications/KC9PYB Trustee
Employement: Broadband Solutions, Inc. - Residential/Commercial Installer

I was first licensed in the Summer of 2006 as KC9JVC and soon thereafter met N9KNY (Dave) and KC9GRD (Joe) and got involved in public service with the Marathon County Wisconsin ARES/RACES and SKYWARN, as well as volunteering with area events such as bike races, The Wisconsin Badger State Games and Wisconsin Special Olympics through the local club. Dave and Joe also introduced me to contesting and I do enjoy partaking in that from time to time as well (mainly the WI QSO party and field day.) In the summer of 2007, I upgraded my license class to General and and my SKYWARN training to Advanced Level and am currently studying to get my Amateur Extra as well as getting current with all the ICS training requirements of ARES/RACES. Most recently, I got my vanity call of W9HDG. I chose this call in salute to the place that I still call home (and where I graduated High School class of '99 HDG standing for Hodag,) Rhinelander, WI., which I still call home even though I don't currently live there.

My other Hobbies include Hunting and Working on computers every chance I get as well as occasional PC gaming and I can quite often be found at my parents house in the Oneida county area where I hope to move back to some day.
